I am a mixed media artist with my home and studio on Lake Gaston, North Carolina. My studio is filled with interesting natural objects collected through the years from all over the world. I have always felt that the most amazing forms, structure, color and textures are found within nature and that exposure to these elements have been my inspiration and teacher. My work expresses the evolution of my life experiences. In practicing architecture for 30 years, I have explored the rather complex processes of manipulating form, texture, material, and color to create emotional response from the people interacting with a space. My artwork is a continuation of that process, at a more intimate scale. Connecting with the viewer, at both intellectual and emotional levels, remains the ultimate goal.

For the last five years, I have been collaborating with Myron Whitaker, an award-winning North Carolina ceramic artist who specializes in Raku work, to do many wheel-thrown pieces – large and small vessels, sanctuaries, totem poles, and pedestal pieces.

A graduate of the University of Maryland School of Architecture in 1977, I worked for 30 years as a registered architect, planning and designing award-winning buildings in both the Washington DC and Raleigh/Durham areas. Finding my true passion in my artwork, I founded Claytree Fine Arts over ten years ago. My studio is in Littleton, NC.
