Tony finds most of his inspiration for his driftwood sculptures in organically weathered pieces of wood. Every piece tells a story and is uniquely shaped and textured ; some by oceans and rivers and others by insects and the elements.

Tony Fredriksson

Born in Harare, Zimbabwe, on the 8th of July 1959, Tony Fredriksson can recall that as early as the age of 6 the arts found its way into his heart and hands.

Tony completed his diploma in fine art in 1979 at the Eastborne College of Art and Design in the UK. Painting, drawing, and sculpting have all had their seasons in Tony’s art career but it is however the driftwood sculptures that he has recently become most synonymous with, starting back in 2007. His first solo driftwood exhibition featured fish with a Tambooti Masaai warrior which was on loan from a client. He was then commissioned to do a nude driftwood sculpture of a female figure for the White River Gallery.

It was Tony’s game fish sculptures that got the attention of a luxury resorts group in the Seychelles, who purchased his driftwood shark with all of its internal organs magnificently exposed in wood, together with a three meter Coelacanth. He was commissioned by Seasons in Africa to make a life size whale skeleton on the Desroches Island using driftwood found on the beach, the 13 meter sculpture took five weeks to complete.

2011 was the year for birds, Tony’s huge marabou stork, life-size ostrich and delicate dart had the White River Gallery at Casterbridge, White River, buzzing for three weeks. 2012 featured mammals and mechanical objects which resulted in his artwork being published in auto and travel publications. Tony’s works until now progressively demanded respect and admiration from an international audience. Commission an artwork from Tony at a discounted rate at commissions@discovermyart.com.
